“Training for Tomorrow”
Kristin believes a solid foundation is key to excellence in the arena. She feels that a horse must be solidly doing all the basic maneuvers to make the transition as smooth as possible. Kristin can start a 2 year old from scratch or have a refresher course with a broke horse. Each horse is treated as an individual, and Kristin adepts herself to their personal style. With success on horses that have run to the left as well as to the right, Kristin can easily take a horse either way. The goal is to have a horse that loves his job and fulfills his potential- whether he is a solid 3D weekend warrior or next years NFR sensation. No horse is pushed into unrealistic expectations.
Every horse is put onto Kristin’s “Complete Care Program”. As a firm believer that winning takes place at home, every horse in the Training Program is put on a quality horse-care program. Kristin only feeds a quality hay and grain, and each horse gets daily turnout in pasture. A winner must be sound in body as well as mind.
Training Philosophy
“In my training program, whether the horse is a two year old just learning his first steps or an older horse that has had steps skipped, I always make sure they know or go back to their basic fundamentals. I feel that a lot of the times horses get pushed too hard in their training or are not asked in the correct way. This is like a kid going to school and skipping grades; in the end he is going to have trouble in college. Likewise for the horse; in the end he will not make a solid competitive horse for a long time. It is all about consistent runs and consistent training. A solid foundation will make all the difference in the world when he becomes a barrel horse of his level,” Kristin Weaver-Brown.
Candidates for Training
Kristin takes any age of horse into training; from young horses to be campaigned in Futurity competition or horses that will be developed into a youth, divisional, or rodeo horse. She has had wins on both cow and race bred prospects, and welcomes horses of any breeding.
Futurity Horses
Kristin is a futurity champion in both reining and barrel racing and is always looking for good prospects. Kristin can train the horse to run in the open under herself or in the non-pro, if the owner wishes to compete. She regularly goes to all the major futurities in Oklahoma and Texas.
